Envision Financial

Our History

Envision Financial is a premier provider of banking, investment and insurance services for residents and businesses throughout the Fraser Valley, Lower Mainland and Kitimat regions. As a division of First West Credit Union, B.C.’s third-largest credit union, Envision Financial brings innovative products, an extensive branch network and local decision-making to the banking experience.

Originally founded as Ladner Fisherman's Credit Union in 1946, Delta Credit Union—as it would come to be known in 1966—was formed by the local fishing community, whose unique needs were not being met by traditional financial institutions. With consistent growth over the following 20 years, Delta reached over $900 million in assets under administration by 1999. An increasingly competitive economic environment combined with a growing desire to provide excellent financial service to their members led Delta into discussions with FirstHeritage about a possible merger.

FirstHeritage Savings Credit Union—the product of a merger between East Chilliwack Credit Union and Clearbrook District Mennonite Savings Credit Union in 1983—was originally established to meet the needs of Fraser Valley farmers. The credit union saw fast and steady growth in the 25 years following FirstHeritage's creation. By 1999, FirstHeritage held $1 billion in assets before entering into merger talks with Delta Credit Union.

In 2001, BC-based financial cooperatives FirstHeritage Savings and Delta Credit Union came together to form Envision Financial. Both founding credit unions were created by small groups of hardworking British Columbians who wanted a locally-responsive financial institution that would work with them to achieve their goals and offer an alternative to the big banks. Today, Envision Financial continues to build on its proud history of solid financial success and its vision to excel in member service, employee wellbeing, financial strength and corporate citizenship.

Several years after its inception in 2001, Envision Financial entered into partnership talks with Valley First Credit Union in Penticton. The two credit unions' mutual goal was to develop a new, innovative financial services organization for British Columbia that would see each credit union retain its local identity, community focus and decision-making while providing members with the backing of a larger financial institution. 2010 saw this dream move a step closer to reality with the formal merger of Envision Financial and Valley First, creating First West Credit Union. In 2013, Enderby & District Credit Union joined First West Credit Union and Island Savings Credit Union joined in 2015. First West is B.C.'s third-largest credit union with $10 billion in assets under administration, more than 240,000 members and more than 1,700 employees.
